Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, the Grenadines, Grenada, Greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispaniola), Mesoamerica, South America.
Although usually considered a shrub/small tree, there are a few massive trees around.
The fruit was used for a blue dye.
Local medicinal uses
