Rutaceae family Zanthoxylum spinifex (Jacquin) de Candolle, Prodr. 1: 728. 1824. Bas.: Fagara spinifex Jacquin (1809). Indigenous quite rare tree of deciduous seasonal forest, especially coastal. Anguilla, St. Barthélemy, Barbuda, Antigua, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, Marie Galante, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Barbados, Greater Antilles, South America. Thin whitish twigs with the spines cut off are used as a bwa bandé (male sexual stimulant), often placed in strong white rum. Used mostly in the dry north and south of the island.
