family Euphorbia prostrata Aiton, Hort. Kew. 2: 139. 1789. Syn.: Chamaesyce prostrata (Aiton) Small (1903). Indigenous. quite rare prostrate herb of dry open areas, often with a light or sandy soil, at lower elevations. Probably originating in the neotropics or neosubtropics. Three similar species: E. serpens has round leaves, usually solitary involucres in leaf axils, and hairless capsules. E. prostrata has oblong leaves, involucres in groups in leaf axils, and capsules that have a fringle of long hairs on the keels, otherwise glabrous. E. thymifolia has oblong leaves, involucres in groups in leaf axils, and capsules that are somewhat hairy on all parts. |
