Wild Ferns (and their allies)
| Hymenophyllaceae family Didymoglossum hymenoides (Hedwig) Copeland, Philipp. J. Sci. 67: 77. 1938. Bas.: Trichomanes hymenoides Hedwig (1799). Indigenous epiphyte of lower montane rainforest. Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada, Barbados, Greater Antilles, Mesoamerica, South America. I found this species by accident while examining the rhizome of Polytaenium dussianum at home. It is probable that Didymoglossum hymenoides is also present on the rock and perhaps on tree trunks as well. Not easy to see in the images but the venation pattern is different from the very common Didymoglossum punctatum. Didymoglossum hymenoides has relatively few veins and a noticeable midrib (costa). |
